A comparative study of sexual dysfunctions in controlled and uncontrolled diabetic patients

In this research, one of its long-term complications, sexual dysfunction, was investigated. Methods: The samples (n=200) of this research were selected from diabetic women and men, registered in Isfahan Endocrine and Metabolism Center. The tool of data collection was questionnaire that was completed through interview and telephone call. Content validity and test retest reliability methods were used to determine the validity and reliability of the questionnaires. The samples were divided into two groups, controlled and uncontrolled, given the percent of glycosylated hemoglobin. The presence of different sexual dysfunctions and the relations between some of the demographic characteristics and sexual dysfunctions in controlled and uncontrolled diabetic patients were investigated. Results: Sexual dysfunctions in controlled and uncontrolled diabetic men included low sexual desire, uncompleted erectile dysfunction, complete erectile dysfunction, decrease in seminal fluid, anejaculation, retrograde ejaculation, weak ejaculation and disorder in sexual satisfaction. Sexual dysfunctions in controlled and uncontrolled diabetic women included low sexual desire, reduction of vaginal lubrication, painful intercourse, decreased ability to have orgasms, disorder in sexual pleasure, anxiety, disorder in sexual satisfaction and vaginal infections. Also, there was a significant relationship between sexual dysfunctions and age, length of diabetes, drug consumption, presence of chronic illnesses, chronic complications of diabetes and high blood pressure. Conclusion: The results of this research showed existence of many problems in sexual functions of diabetic patients and the direct relationship of problems with age, length of diabetes, drug consumption, presence of chronic illnesses, chronic complications of diabetes and high blood pressure.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/192
