This study has designed to determine the smoking patterns of the high school and pre-university students in Isfahan.</p> <p><strong>Methods</strong><strong>:</strong> In this cross sectional study 355 high school students were surveyed during 2004-5 in Isfahan, Iran. For data collection a checklist was applied and answered by the students. The smoking pattern was evaluated by the standard questionnaire of WHO and its relation with personal characteristics of the students was analyzed. The statistical analysis was done using t-test, chi-square and logistic regression in SPSS software.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong><strong>:</strong> 10.3% of students were smoker and 37.9% of them had experienced smoking at least for one time. Also the age of the students had no significant relationship with smoking pattern, but the employment of students had a significant relationship with smoking pattern. Having smoker friends had also a significant relationship with smoking.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion</strong><strong>:</strong> The studied students had great tendencies to experience smoking and by increasing the rate of smoker friends, the weekly and daily smoking pattern will increased.</p> <p><strong>Key words</strong><strong>:</strong> Smoking, adolescents, students</p>http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/40http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/download/40/40
