This study tried to define and compare mean depression and anxiety scores in patients before and after group therapy in both groups of study and control. Methods: This was a clinical experiment on 22 patients with MI, hospitalized in CCUs of medical university hospitals for the first time, being discharged and randomly selected as study and control groups. The data were collected by Beck depression scale and Kattle anxiety scale. In order to access the results, paired t test, ANOVA with reobservations and student t test were used in SPSS software Results: The findings showed that depression and anxiety levels in patients with MI decreased significantly in study group after group therapy sessions and a month after that compared with control group and before intervention. Conclusion: Regarding the continuous effect of group therapy on depression and anxiety levels of the patients, application of this method seems essential in all stages of prevention and treatment of the patients with MIhttp://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/164

This can be a good scale to measure and evaluate quality of medical services. This study tried to investigate the patient satisfaction of medical and nursing services. Methods: This was a descriptive study. Data were collected by questionnaires. Each questionnaire included three sections, demographic characteristics plus satisfaction rates of medical and nursing services. The subjects included 358 patients randomly selected from those being discharged from hospital. Satisfaction rates were measured by Likert scales as quite satisfied, somehow satisfied, dissatisfied, quite dissatisfied and indifferent. Results: The findings showed that most of the patients (68.7%) were satisfied with medical services while this value was 66.5 % for nursing services. X2 test was used to determine the association between demographic characteristics and satisfaction. The statistical results showed a significant association between sex, age, education degree, hospitalization history and satisfaction of medical and nursing services. Conclusion: Overall, medical and nursing services satisfied the subjects. The patients were more satisfied with specific wards, possibly either due to a lower life expectancy in these wards, which decreases patients' expectations or better care that the doctors and nurses provided in these wards.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/165

Methods: This was a two-group two-stage survey carried out on all coronary patients hospitalized in CCU of Dr. Shariati Hospital, well-qualified to enter the study selected through non-randomized convenient sampling method. The samples were randomly divided into two groups of study and control. The data were collected by interviews and observations through questionnaires, sphygmomanometer and telecardiac monitoring. The questionnaire included four sections and was made according to the scientific books and articles. The first section, filled out at the beginning of the research, included nine questions on individual and health related characteristics. The second part included five questions on urination and defecation status and the third section contained eight questions on urination and defecation signs. The fourth part was composed of an anxiety and depression hospital questionnaire including fourteen questions. Scientific validity of the questionnaire was made by content validity and the reliability was made through a pilot study with a Cronbach alpha of 0.9. All of the subjects were in complete bed rest for the first 12 hours and had in bed elimination. As soon as outside bed eliminations were licensed, blood pressure and heart rate were checked for study group before elimination and in case of arrhythmia, it was recorded. Elimination signs were asked from the subjects and recorded. Blood pressure, heart rate, arrhythmia and elimination signs were recorded after elimination. For controls, elimination was administrated handling a bedpan and in bed after interviewing and filling out the questionnaire without any further researchers' interventions. The data were processed and analyzed by SPSS and inferential descriptive statistics. Pair t-test, t-test, Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests were used to reach the goals of the study. Results: The findings showed a significant difference between mean blood pressure and heart rate before and after elimination in bed and out of bed (P=%001). Mean systolic blood pressure and heart rate showed a significant difference between, before and after elimination out of bed compared with controls (P>%05). The findings on frequency distribution of the signs before and after elimination out of bed also showed no significant difference with the controls (P>%05). Frequency distribution of arrhythmia after elimination out of bed showed a significant difference with controls (P=0.004). Mean number of eliminations after elimination out of bed showed a significant difference with controls (P=0.001). Regarding the frequency distribution of psychological reaction in study and control groups, there was a significant difference before and after eliminations in and out of bed (P=0.001). The findings also showed no significant difference in the frequency distribution of psychological reaction between the two groups before elimination out of bed while there was a significant difference between them after elimination out of bed (P=0.023). Besides these types of management and treatment, complementary treatments such as massage therapy were also practiced in different societies. The goal of this study was assessment of the effect of massage therapy on the level of blood glucose in diabetic children. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental, two group, two step study. Samples included 15 diabetic children, 7-15 year-old, all having inclusion criteria of the study, randomized into two groups of control and massage. Sampling was done with convenience method and groups were divided randomly by the investigator. In massage group, parents had to massage the bodies of their children, 6 times everyday for 15 minutes at bedtime, for a period of two months. One glycated hemoglobin test was done as well as a retest after two months. The data were analyzed by SPSS software and descriptive inferential statistical methods. Results: Paired t-test showed that glycated hemoglobin decreased significantly after study in massage group compared with pre-study period (P<0.05). Analysis of variance showed a significant difference between pre- and post-study mean glycated hemoglobin levels between massage and control groups (P<0/05). Conclusion: Results showed the positive effect of massage therapy on decreasing the blood glucose level in diabetic children. Therefore, this method can be suggested as a complement method in addition to the routine treatment of diabetes to control blood glucose level in diabetic children.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/169

This indicator is suggested as an accurate instrument to evaluate total body fat, because it is cheaper, easier to use by the patient and health personnel and easy to be calculated. The present research was conducted to determine the norm of women BMI as well as their personal and reproductive characteristics in Isfahan. Methods: This was a descriptive cross–sectional study. The samples were 384 women in Isfahan selected by cluster sampling method, referred to 10 health centers of the city. In this research, the evaluation instruments included a questionnaire, adult standard scales and standard meter tape. Collected data were analyzed by SPSS software and descriptive statistical method. Results: Results indicated that the mean, median and standard deviation of women BMI were 26.78 kg/m2, 26.2 kg/m2 and 4.46 kg/m2, respectively. The minimum and maximum of women BMI were 17 kg/m2 and 43.5 kg/m2, respectively. Also, it was determined that in 48.4% of women, BMI was less than 26.2 kg/m2 while in 51.6% it was equal or more than 26.2 kg/m2. Conclusion: Median of women BMI in Isfahan is higher than that in USA and Canada (median = 25). Perhaps this difference is due to some factors such as genetics, race, geographical status, lack or insufficiency of physical activity as well as incorrect nutritional patterns. So, the women are recommended to take exercises, to have more physical activity and to improve their nutritional patterns to stay physically fit and prevent overweight and obesity. In order to prevent overweight and obesity, women's BMI should be determined by health personnel and if necessary, they should be referred to a nutritionist.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/171

Decreased Po2 and increased Pco2 can weaken the respiratory system and cause acidosis. This can also cause cardiopulmonary failure and drive the patient to death. In case of obstruction in respiratory system, collection of secretions or even non-efficient coughs, intubations should be quickly administrated to save the life of the patients. One of the most important nursing cares in these patients is to suction airways in order to save the patient from a likely death. This research evaluated the effects of nursing education in endotracheal suctioning. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study in a group of 31 nursing personnel, working in ICUs of medical university hospitals. They were selected and given a pretest before and a post-test ten days after having an educational class (including both theoretic and practical education). The data were collected by interviews and checklists before and after education. Content validity and reliability were made by case analysis. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (including frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation), t-paired test, t-test, Pearson correlation index and analysis of variance. Results: The results showed that the mean score was 19.9 before personnel's education while it was 32.3 after education. The difference was significant. Therefore, the education can improve suctioning. Conclusion: The findings of the research showed a significant difference between scores before and after education of suctioning. This study tried to declare educational needs of staffs of post-operating room. Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive analytic study carried out on recovery personnel working in Isfahan university hospitals. Researchers collected the data through questionnaires including questions investigating all domains of personnel's knowledge on patients' postoperative care and complications. The sampling was done by census sampling selecting 63 subjects of whom 3 were left out of study (total number of samples=60). The data were analyzed by SPSS software. Results: Findings showed that the mean knowledge score of early respiratory complications was 63.6 (SD=12.4). Also, the mean knowledge score of early circulatory complications was 57.8 (SD=24.2). The mean knowledge score of early neuropsychiatry complications was 64.7 (SD=18.8) and the mean knowledge score of early anesthesia complications was 63.9 (SD=23.2). There was a significant difference between the score of knowledge related to early circulation disorders (the lowest mean score) and the one related to early anesthesia disorders (the highest mean score). Conclusion: The findings showed that the knowledge scores of recovery personnel were not in a good level. Recent researches showed a relationship between serum ferritin level and some complications such as preterm delivery and premature rupture of membranes. This study evaluated the relationship between serum ferritin level and outcome of pregnancy. Methods: This study was a descriptive and analytic prospective research, which covered 267 pregnant women who referred to selected health centers of Isfahan. Data collection was done by questionnaires and interviews, prenatal documents and results of serum ferritin levels. Sampling was done by cluster random method. Samples of serum ferritin concentration were taken in 28-30 weeks of pregnancy. Data were analyzed by descriptive and analytic tests (t-test and analysis of variance). Results: Data analysis showed that 10, 25, 50, 75 and 90 percentiles of serum ferritin concentration in weeks 28-30 of pregnancy were 8.6, 20.6, 12, 30.2 and 42.5 ng/ml, respectively. Samples were divided into six groups. Mean serum ferritin levels in premature rupture of membrane (PROM) cases were more than those with no PROM. On the basis of these results, a significant relationship between serum ferritin levels and PROM was seen. Conclusion: The findings showed a relationship between serum ferritin level and PROM. Patient management problem (PMP) is one of the clinical decision making methods in which some clinical conditions are taken from a disease and are put forward in the form of a multi-stage question. This study tried to use computerized PMP to evaluate midwifery students' clinical decision making. Methods: In a cross-sectional census study, 40 senior bachelor midwifery students from Tehran, Iran and Shahid Behshti Medical Universities were studied. Computerized PMP questionnaire on 9 simulated cases referred for preconception care designed in a software program was given to the subjects to fill out. The data were analyzed by descriptive and multiple regression analyses in SPSS software. Results: The mean score taken by the studied students was 35.62±7 .01 out of 100. Most subjects had average clinical decision-making. The acquired mean score of subjects in risk assessment, in education and counseling and in intervention were 40.17±9.14, 31.87±10.23 and 31.42±13.77, respectively. Most subjects had average clinical decision making in these three fields. Conclusion: Since clinical decision making, a major element in enhancement of health team services as well as midwifery students' services, can be evaluated and taught by PMP and since evaluation of most subjects in preconception care did not show appropriate levels of clinical decision making, more precise education in this field seems essential.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/179
