Multiple sclerosis (MS), a long-term life threatening disease, can make acute disabilities affecting patients' quality of life. Self-care can well diminish the disease extension and complications, provide the patient with a better quality of life and offer his family a better coping ability against new conditions. So this study was carried out to evaluate the effect of self-care on quality of life of patients with multiple sclerosis. Methods: This was quasi-experimental study. The method of data gathering was questionnaires, which included two sections. The first section covered demographic characteristics such as age and educational level. The second part included life quality questionnaire. Twenty eight patients with MS referred to a private clinic and the neurology clinic of Isfahan Alzahra Hospital were selected by convenient sampling method. They were asked to attend three 45-minute educational sessions. The sessions were held 1 to 2 times per week according to patient's condition and the working shift. Then, they started self-care programs for three weeks. The quality of life questionnaire was filled either by patients or the researcher. The findings were analyzed and compared through descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Findings showed a noticeable increase in mean score of quality of life in physical function (P<0.001), psycho-cognitive domain (P<0.001), social function (P<0.001) and general health status (P<0.001) after educational intervention on self-care program. There was also a sharp increase in total score of quality of life after the intervention compared with that before that the intervention. Conclusion: The findings showed that self-care could positively affect quality of life. So, they need developmental interventions in addition to intensive medical care. In general, developmental interventions are considered as part of nursing care. One of these interventions is tactile-kinesthetic stimulation, which is tailored to the developmental level and tolerance of each infant. There are various methods to perform tactile-kinesthetic stimulations. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of superficial tactile-kinesthetic stimulation method on weight gain of low-birth-weight infants. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study conducted on 54 low-birth-weight infants in hospitals, selected by convenient sampling method. They were assigned to two groups of twenty-seven infants. One of the groups received superficial tactile-kinesthetic stimulation. This group was compared with a control group receiving no stimulations. Criteria for inclusion in the study were birth weight <2500 g, age <18 days, breast-feeding, having Iranian race, absence of congenital heart malformation, pulmonary diseases, neuromuscular disorders, respiratory distress, sepsis, maternal addiction, NPO or intravenous feeding and blood exchange. Data were collected through observations, interviews and measuring weight by special scales of infants weighing (seco) with an accuracy of ±10 grams. Each infant in the treatment group received superficial tactile-kinesthetic stimulation for three 15-minute periods, 30-45 minutes after feeding in the morning, afternoon and evening for 10 consecutive days. Weight of infants was measured three times, in the beginning of the study, 5 days and 10 days later by the same equipment and by the same observer. Student t-test and paired t-test were used to compare weight gains within and between groups. Results: The two groups did not differ significantly on matched variables. Means of weight gain within groups, before and after of the study were statistically different. Also a significant difference was found between the two groups. The treatment group had significantly higher weight than the control group. Conclusion: These findings showed that superficial tactile-kinesthetic stimulation enhances weight gain in low-birth-weight infants. The other studies reported similar findings. Thus, this method can decrease mortality and morbidity in low-birth-weight infants.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/168

Therefore, they must be able to do the proper decision-making and share their subordinates in this process for patient care. Methods: This was an analytical descriptive, cross-sectional study. In this study, all head nurses of various wards of the educational hospitals in Isfahan were investigated. The data were collected using questionnaires. Results: The results showed that decision-making methods of head nurses were consultative, participative and autocratic (55.8%, 42.1% and 2.1%, respectively). Delegating method had no application. There was a significant relationship between decision making methods and personal characteristics such as sex, marital status and management experience of head nurses. Conclusion: Management and decision-making are mutual process and subordinates development levels affect the decision-making style of the managers. Perhaps head nurses used more consultative and participative methods in their decision-making based on organizational values and nursing management structure of the educational hospitals. Given the fact that the quality of providing nursing care and patient satisfaction are low, the efficiency of current decision-making methods is in doubt.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/170

Therefore, prevention is the most important priority. Because one way of HIV transmission is through body injury with sharp contaminated instruments, and barbers usually use these instruments, this study was conducted to determine the level of knowledge and practice of barbers on methods of preventing AIDS in Zabol. Methods: This study was a descriptive analytic investigation. Samples (n=100) were selected from barbers in Zabol. The data were collected by a questionnaire that was completed by barbers. Results: The results showed that 8% of barbers had low knowledge, 53% had average knowledge and 39% had high knowledge on AIDS preventing methods; 29% of barbers had low practice, 50% average and 21% had suitable practice in this field. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, barbers knowledge and practice on AIDS preventing methods were poor; therefore, a different educational method is necessary to promote their knowledge and practice.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/172

The present study was carried out in order to determine the rate of respect of the health care providers towards the rights and spherical limits. Methods: A researcher-made questionnaire based on the patients' points of view was completed for 285 patients and the collected data were analyzed by SPSS software. Results: The finding showed that %53.7 of patients believed that their rights were "often" respected by the health care providers. There was a significant relation between patients' education and patients rights. There are many social factors that are able to weaken the growth and development in children. This research tried to investigate the effects of some these factors such as educational level, parents' jobs, maternal care, time spent for childcare and breast feeding habit on <1 year-old mortality rate. Methods: This was a comparative retrospective study in which, there were 121 less then 1 year-old children (dead and live) referred to Isfahan health centers. They were categorized into two groups. The data were collected by questionnaires. Content validity and standardized fixed forms were used for questionnaire validity and reliability, respectively. The data were analyzed by descriptive inferential statistics (X2, t-test, Mantel Hanzel and column chart) through SPSS software. Results: The findings showed a significant association between parents education, fathers and mothers jobs, breast feeding habit, the time spent for child care, maternal care and mortality of children <1 year-old. Conclusion: It seems that health strategies may play major roles in prediction and control of social factors affecting infants' mortality rate. There are various factors affecting mothers' desire in choosing contraceptive method in postpartum period. The aim of this research was to determine lactating mothers' desires in choosing contraceptive methods and the related factors. Methods: This study was a descriptive analytical cross-sectional research. The samples for this study were 384 lactating mothers referred to family planning services for the first time after delivery in Isfahan health centers. The sampling method was convenience and the data were collected with a questionnaire by interview. Descriptive and analytical statistical methods were used in order to analyze the data in SPSS and EPI-info soft wares. Results: The findings indicated that the most common desired contraceptive method in lactating mothers was coitus interrupt (27.4%). Also, the following variables had significant relation with their desire: husband' attitude, number of parity and alive children, age of the latest child, knowledge on contraceptive methods and marital duration (P<0.05). Conclusion: Desires of lactating mothers should be investigated in family planning consultation and the mothers should be convinced to avoid using contraceptive methods with high failure rate (such as coitus interrupt).http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/178

Positive insight in patient training can affect practice of nurses. So, the goal of this search was evaluation of the insights of nurses on patient training. Methods: In this study, 186 nurses were selected based on random cluster sampling method from different hospitals of Ardebil. The information was collected through Redman questionnaire. Results: The findings showed that 47.8% of nurses had positive insight and 52.2% had negative insight. About 91.4% believed that patient training helps them to understand better the disease course. Although all nurses believed patient training is necessary, but 37.16% thought that this work is in the era of doctors' duties. The results of data analysis showed meaningful relation between nurses insight and changes of service, sex and marriage (P=0.50). Conclusion: The results of this research showed that the nurses should be trained to upgrade their insights in patient training.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/180
