The provision of their well-being and optimal growth are constructive and fruitful investments in economical, social and cultural welfare of society. The growth of a child is not only based on achieving a desired physical growth but on his adjustment with environmental and developmental capabilities. Then, consideration of several aspects of growth and its multifactor predictors is important. This study was based on effects of emotive environment and the way that the child is treated on his physical and mental growth. Methods: This study was a descriptive retrospective study. A total of 204 first grade students were selected based on random cluster sampling. The instruments for data collection were questionnaire and the standard tools for weight and height assessments. Questionnaires included questions on demographic characteristics plus Bury Parental Authoritative questionnaire as well as Raven IQ test. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistical tests such as stepwise multiple regression, Pearson correlation and ANOVA tests.  Results: Results showed that maternal attitude towards parenting style is related to child's cognitive development. We found a negative correlation between authoritarian maternal attitude and child's IQ. There was no relationship between authoritarian maternal attitude and child's physical growth. Conclusions: Findings of the present study suggests that in order to achieve successful growth, we have to consider multisystemic methods that cover several aspects of growth and also, consider emotional factors such as parenting style to have successful cognitive development. Continued use of contraceptive method plays an important role in assessment of quality of family planning. The present study investigated the rate of continued use of combined oral contraceptives in a sample population in Iran. Methods: The present research was a cross-sectional study surveying 500 women between 15-49 years of age by random cluster sampling method. All these women used combined oral contraceptive methods continuously and were being cared in maternal and child centers. The tool used in data collection was a comprehensive questionnaire, which was completed through interviews, filled out by trained interviewers. Content validity was used in order to determine the validity of the questionnaire. Descriptive and analytic statistics were used for data analysis, which was completed through SPSS soft ware. Results: The mean duration of using combined oral contraceptive methods was 21.38 ± 15.94 months. Cumulative proportion of using combined oral contraceptive methods in 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 48 and 60 months after starting to take combined oral contraception was 77%, 62%, 52%, 45%, 35%, 28%, 19% and 12%, respectively. Findings of the present study showed that the majority of women were 15-24 year-old and had secondary school education. Conclusion: Results obtained from the present research showed that the continued use of combined oral contraceptive methods was highest in the first six months of starting to take combined oral contraception. This finding suggests that workers of family health planning should improve the qualities of their counseling and encourage the clients for continuous use of contraceptive method.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/190

Iranian Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Research1735-90669120100208Low back pain prevalence rate among working nurses in Ardabil hospitals in 2002191191Instructor, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Ardabil university of Medical Sciences,20101113    Introduction: Low back pain is an acute or chronic condition restricting people's physical activities. Nurses suffer from low back pain two folds more than ordinary people and lose more working days than usual. This survey was done to determine the prevalence of low back pain among nurses and its relationship with some of the demographic factors. Methods: This survey was a cross-sectional study and the samples included working nurses in Ardabil hospitals. Data collection was done through arranged questionnaires. The low back pain criterion was self-expression of pain during the one week before interview. X2 test was used to investigate the association between personal factors and low back pain prevalence. Results: Findings showed that the prevalence of low back pain in the studied nurses was %64. The highest prevalence was seen in those working less than 3 years (68.3%). Low back pain was more prevalent in females (73.8%) than in males (46.3%). Single individuals had the lowest low back pain prevalence (36.4%). The low back pain prevalence in the persons lifting things in a wrong way was 83.7% and there was a significant association between the method of lifting things and low back pain (P<0.05). Similarly, low back pain in nurses of pediatric wards (82.4%) and intensive care wards (75%) was more than that in nurses of other wards and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The mean work time of the injured individuals was less than that in non-injured ones (P<0.05). Low back pain prevalence in nurses working at night (76.8%) was more than that in nurses working in daytime (48.1%) and the difference was significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Given the high prevalence of low back pain in nurses (64.5%), correct method of patients displacement should be taught in the ward.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/191
