With respect to unpleasant effects of postpartum depression, prevention from this disorder seems essential and practical; and effective preventive ways should be detected. This research was conducted to determine the supportive role of midwives in prevention of postpartum depression. Methods: This research was a quasi-experimental study and the samples of this research were composed of 100 primiparous women in the Beheshty hospital of Isfahan in 2000-2001. The sampling method was systematic randomization. The subjects filled out a questionnaire consisting two parts. The first part was related to demographic specifications and the second part was the Edinburg postpartum depression inventory. Data analysis was done by SPSS statistical software. Results: Mean depression scores in the two groups (supported and unsupported) were determined. Mean score of depression in the supported group was 9.44 and for unsupported group was 12.60 showing a significant statistical difference (P= 0.004). Conclusion: According to the findings, midwives' support is a very effective factor in the prevention of postpartum depression.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/201

The prevalence of enuresis at age 5 is 7% for males and 3% for females while it is 4.1% in 7 year-old children in Iran. Methods: This survey was a descriptive analytic study in which 40 children with enuresis were selected as case group and 40 normal ones as controls. Method of selection was through simple random sampling. After selecting the case group, the parents were interviewed and the questionnaires were filled out. Then, the laboratory tests such as urine and blood tests and kidney ultrasonography were done for all children. Results: Mean age of the samples was 8 years. All children had normal laboratory tests. Enuresis was more frequent in boys than in girls (p<0/05). Statistical tests showed a significant association between enuresis and sex, the presence of a brother or a sister with the history of enuresis, physical punishment, any history of war, floods or earthquake, family size, daily urine times and urinary emergency (p<0/05). Conclusion: It is recommended to reduce stress in a family when the child is in toddler age. The children must not be punished for incontinency. Perception of stressor by everybody is different from the others. Methods: This was a descriptive study. The purpose of this study was to determine perception of nurses towards ICU stressors. The samples were nurses working in ICU wards. The data were gathered by questionnaires and were analyzed through ANOVA. Results: The results showed that the most important stressors were fear of death, pain, being connected to drain and tubes with mean scores of 4.3, 4.25 and 4.23, respectively (P=0.05). The least important stressors were hearing other patient's noise, ringing the phone and looking at the ceiling with the mean scores of 2.66, 2.84 and 2.89, respectively (P=0.05). The results also showed significant differences for age, sex and educational degree. There was no significant difference regarding marriage (P>%5). Conclusion: Regarding the results of the study and the deep effect of stressors on disease trend, investigating the stressors can be modified with educational programs.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/203

In this study, medical record functions in different fields such as admission, medical archive, coding and statistics were investigated, evaluated and compared. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in 2002. The dada were collected by four checklists with 119 questions as well as forms, which were filled out according to 1300 patients' medical files. The data collecting tool was designed according to standards of American Medical Record Association (1990) and standard form of Ministry of Health, Education and Treatment (1996). SPPS software was used to analyze the data with chi-square and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Result: The findings of the research showed that the quality of medical record services in investigated hospitals is much lower than that of national and international standards. The findings also showed that the quality of medical record service in Giroft and Bam (Mehdieh) were low, in Kerman Darman, Shafa and Davazdah Farvardin were average and in Imam Khomeini hospital, Kashani (Baft), Beheshti, Sina, Imam Reza and Vali-Asr were fairly good. Bahonar hospital had the best quality in medical record service. Total score of medical record function in investigated hospitals was fairly good (61% of total scores) compared with other hospitals in Iran. Conclusion: The function of medical record service can be promoted by official announcements, duty determination and personnel's encouragement to follow the instructions as well as hiring well-trained staff.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/204

Among chronic pulmonary diseases, asthma is the most common disease that has high prevalence and incidence and in spite of available drugs to control its symptoms, morbidity and mortality due to asthma have increased. Asthmatic attacks and anxiety often have some interactions. The relaxation techniques can help the patients decrease their anxiety. Therefore, anxiety and distress in asthmatic patients can be decreased by relaxation. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study. The samples in this study included 26 patients randomly divided into two groups as study group and control group. Relaxation was trained to study group and it continued for four weeks, twice per day. Dyspnea was measured by visual analog scale in both groups and then, the two groups were compared. Statistical analysis was carried out with paired t-test and t test in SPSS software. Results: The results showed that maximum, minimum and the extent of dyspnea in study group was significantly decreased in comparison with control group. There was no significant relation between the decrease in dyspnea the extent and the demographic data. Conclusion: Based on the research findings, health care workers are recommended to apply relaxation training for asthmatic patients. http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/205

There are various variables such as the duration and the clients consistency in using a special contraceptive method as well as some individual determinations, which play important roles in optimal using of different contraceptive methods. The present study investigated the effects of some individual determinations in optimal use of IUD. Methods: The present research was a cross-sectional study with a large sample population (400 women) between 15-49 years of age, and sampling method was random clustering. All women were using IUD (Tcu380A) method as a single contraceptive method. The process of data collection started on 21st of March 1995 and continued until 20th of March 1999. The scale used in data collection was a comprehensive questionnaire, which was completed through interviews, filled out by four trained interviewers. Content validity was used in order to determine the validity of this questionnaire and for data analysis, descriptive and analytic statistics were applied. Data analysis was done by SPSS statistical software. Results: Mean duration in using IUD method was 31.5 months. There was a significant correlation between the duration in using IUD method and variables such as marriage duration and the husband's opinion in using IUD method (P<0/05). There was no significant relation between age of marriage, ages and the occupations of the women and their husbands, their levels of education and finally, the number of their alive children with continual use of IUD method (P>0/05). Conclusion: Findings of the present study suggest that clients should receive the relevant information and training and they should be encouraged to be consistent in their chosen method as this will result in the extensive efficiency of the selected method.
