Since, pregnancy is a part of life it can change persons' life style. This study has tried to evaluate the relationship between life style and some characteristics of pregnant women. METHODS: This study was an analytic cross sectional study. The data were collected by a questionnaire about different life style dimensions and some characteristics of pregnant women from 326 subjects referred to selected health and treatment centers of Shiraz in 2005. The data were analyzed by SPSS using t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient. RESULTS: Findings of this study indicated the more acceptable life style was nutrition and the less acceptable was physical activity. There were significant relations (P<0.01) between pregnancy age and stress, parity and physical activity, education level and nutrition, with physical activity of studied population. Also there was a significant difference (P<0.01) concerning stress score in wanted and unwanted pregnancies, in dimension of stress and in dimension of nutrition and physical activity score in employed women and housewives (P<0.01). DISCUSSION: Educating pregnant woman about control of stress, suitable social relations, secure sex activity and regular appropriate physical activities at the time of maternal care are necessary. Nurses should be ready scientifically for managing situations in order to develop and perform appropriate models for
patient care. It is necessary for manager to know about the process and standards of planning and how to apply them in
real conditions. With regard to importance of health care planning and lack of nursing management planning accreditation
in Iran.
METHODS: This triangulating research was carried out between 2004 and 2006. Fifty professional nursing managers in
different level of Iran medical universities and central hospitals, having experience in nursing management at least for
five years, and an MS or BS degree in nursing management, were included in a study through purposed sampling. At
first, a pilot study with an open questionnaire was conducted in Isfahan and Shiraz and then the study went on in 3
phases including searching for international standards in method by 15 professional nursing manager after consensus on
70% and sending the final was used for data analysis. At last standards for nursing management planning were obtained
in Iran.
RESULTS: 48 standards of nursing management planning were obtained. The findings showed that most of the standards
were accepted (90%) and there were not any standards with agreement lower than 70%. These standards, accompanied
with the standards of other nursing units, can be used for quality improvement. The researcher suggests the ministry of
health to use these findings and other related ones to accredit the nursing system and to identify its deficiencies.

improvement and taking care of patients after surgery and anesthesia in order to decrease undesirable evidences, mortality
and morbidity. The special characteristic of recovery cares is nursing cares. The nurse is one of the effective members
of a health group and her/his effective role in admitting, preparing, caring, and physical, moral and social supports
of patient is accepted by all experts of medical sciences. The aim of the present study was to determine standards observance
in the recovery wards of the treatment centers of Isfahan University of Medical sciences (IUMS) in 2003.
METHODS: This was a descriptive study with easy sampling. The quality of cares given by personnel of recovery wards
after anesthesia was determined by using questionnaire and checklist. Obtained data was analyzed by SPSS software.
RESULTS: This study showed that in the recovery ward, most of the cases were managed near the standard status. Based
on the criteria of patient discharge from recovery wards, the results demonstrated that nurses observed the criteria in
most of the cases; only in reporting description of events during and after operation, 68.8% were substandard.
DISCUSSION: Since the side effects of anesthesia may appear during the transfer of patient to the recovery room, in recovery
room or even after transferring to the ward, so a codified recovery room care plan and professional and skilled
personnel who have the ability to observe standards in recovery room can be effective in prevention and treatment of
these side effects.

world. There is a direct relationship between low birth weight and infant mortality rate. One of the most important
measures to prevent childhood morbidity is growth monitoring. The present study was planned to compare the growth
rate of LBW neonates with those weighing 2500g and more at birth (normal birth weight (NBW)) during the first two
years of life.
METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study, which included 218 two years old infants (109 LBW, 109 NBW).
Data gathering tool was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by descriptive analytic statistical methods (the t- test and
the χ2 test).
RESULTS: Our findings revealed that there was a significant difference between the mean values of child weight, height
and head circumference from birth until 2 years of age between the two groups (the LBW group had lower values than
the NBW group). Height by age, weight by age and weight by height indices also had significant difference between the
two groups until 2 years of age. Growth curves in LBW group were upslope until 2 years old. Moreover, the weight
percentile of the LBW children at 2 years of age was deeper than the NBW group.
DISCUSSION: In the present study, comparison of growth parameters until 2 chart years of age and growth of both
groups showed a better growth velocity in the LBW group. The LBW growth curve moved upslope and was more compatible
with standard percentiles throughout the growth curve. However, growth of the NBW group was not fine and
more investigation is needed in this field.

primpara women referring to selected hospital of Tehran university of medical sciences in 2005.
METHODS: This study was a controlled semi-experimental clinical trial. Samples included 70 selected women referring
to selected hospitals in Tehran. The subjects were divided into control and study group. Study group received Lamaze
technique included a training program for the study group containing 6 sessions. In each session, various subjects based
on educational program were taught. Subjects were followed from 24-26 weeks of pregnancy to 24 hours after delivery.
A checklist and a questionnaire were used for collecting the data. Data was analyzed by SPSS software.
RESULTS: The findings showed the subjects were the same regarding demographic characteristics and level of knowledge
concerning various methods of labor and Lamaze technique. There was no significant difference between two
groups regarding the type of delivery, longitude of the first stage of delivery and the first and fifth minute APGAR score
as well as mean gestational age. But, a significant difference in frequency of normal vaginal delivery and forceps or
vacuum usage between two groups was mentioned (p<0.05). The duration of the second stage of delivery in study group
was less while the mean weight of the newborns was more than the controls (p<0.05). The study group was more satisfied
with their labor (p<0.05).
DISCUSSION: The findings showed Lamaze practices can increase satisfaction of labor process. It can decrease the
length of second stage of delivery. Inclusion of Lamaze technique in maternal care programs is highly suggested.
