These results can enhance the education level for nursing students and provide the patients with better health services. This can also help health managers to reinforce the foundation of health education and make a good backdrop for further researches. Methods and materials: This was a descriptive analytic survey, focusing on demographic, residential and nutritional status of the patients with tuberculosis in Isfahan in 1995. About 60 patients were randomly selected from the population studied. The data were gathered with questionnaires including three sections related to demographic, residential and nutrition status of the patients. In order to check the nutritional status of the patients more precisely, blood tests such as HB, HCT, PLT, albumin and cholesterol were checked too. Results: The findings showed that 56.7% of the patients were female; 57.7% of the male patients and 76.5% of the female patients were lower than 50 kg in weight. In total, 68.3% of the weights of the patients were less than 50 kg. Regarding the height, 92.3% of the male patients and 17.6% of the female ones were above 160 cm showing their body mass index less than average. Most of the patients were married and average pregnancy number in women was ≥8 times. Most of the patients were housewives. The family number was 6 or more and there was no scar of tuberculosis vaccination in most patients. There was a significant association between the mean residential score with the nationality and the marital status but no significant association was seen with the family number. The mean score of taking milk products with the sex and the nationality showed a significant association while no significant association was seen between the intake of meat, fruit, vegetables, bread, cereals and sex, nationality, family number and marriage status. Total intake of fruit and vegetables was appropriate by most patients while intake of bread and cereal was average, intake of milk products was inappropriate and meat intake was much less than the standard. Conclusion: The findings showed that most patients have average and lower residential status. Inappropriate food intake delayed patients' recovery and imposed more socioeconomic and occupational burdens on families. This shows the higher responsibility of the authorities and nurses in health centers and the necessity for more supervision. Playing these roles more efficiently can enhance the quality of these services. This study was to investigate the effect of nursing roles on the quality of nursing care in patients with post-operation care. Method and Materials: This was a quasi-experimental research study on 50 discharged patients from cardiac surgery wards of some selected hospitals (25 patients before intervention and 25 after intervention). The data were gathered by questionnaires and included demographic characteristics as well as educational, supportive, defensive and coordinative nursing roles. After the first run of sampling, a reminding session regarding nurses and their multi-roles were held for the nurses working in surgical wards of the selected hospitals and after 15 days, the second run of sampling was done. Results: The statistical analysis of the findings showed a significant difference between the quality of nursing care before and after playing nursing roles from the view points of the patients. Conclusion: Regarding the findings of the research, playing true nursing roles can affect the quality of the services. In addition to long-term duration of these diseases, a long-term therapeutic health care is needed. Among chronic pulmonary diseases, asthma is the most common disease that has high prevalence and incidence. In spite of the availability of different drugs for its treatment, morbidity and mortality due to asthma have increased in our country and other communities. Asthma results in more than 5000 deaths and at least 47000 hospitalizations. Of the most important interventions to prevent asthma mortality and to reduce inappropriate use of health care services are self-care practices and pulmonary rehabilitation in asthmatic patients, which result in improvement of quality of life. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of physical self-care on quality of life of asthmatic patients in six different domains including signs and symptoms of asthma, mood function, physical activity, social function, general perception of health and pulmonary function tests. Materials and methods: This research was a quasi-experimental study and the samples included 21 asthmatic patients selected based on the purposed sampling method participating in a self-care program. Data were gathered by test re-test design. Patients performed physical exercises in 3 stages including warm up, exercise, and cool-down during a four-week program (each time forty five minutes) under control and supervision of the researchers. Data were collected by a standard asthma quality of life questionnaire and also pulmonary function tests (spirometry). The questionnaires were administered at the beginning of the program before physical exercises and four weeks after the application of program. Parameters considered in spirometry were FEV1, FVC, FEV1/ FVC and PEF. Statistical analysis was carried out through t-paired, Wilcoxon and t tests by SPSS soft ware. Results: Findings of this study indicated that the self-care program was effective in improvement of quality of life of asthmatic patients. It showed also significant improvement in PEF (P<0.05), signs and symptoms (P = 0/0001), mood function (P = 0/0001), physical activity (P =0/0001), social function (P =0/0002) and general perception of health (P =0/0002) of these patients. Nurses are the main members of psychiatric treatment team. They must be updated on developments and promotions of psychotropic drugs. Also, they must have positive attitudes towards the medications to manage mental patients appropriately. The objective of this study was to survey nurses working in chronic psychiatric centers regarding psychopharmacology. Methods: This study was done in 1999 in Modarress Hospital, a chronic mental center. Forty six nurses were randomly selected. They completed questionnaires, which included 3 sections of demographic information, knowledge and attitudes. The results were analyzed by SPSS. Results: Ten percent of nurses knew psychotropic drug group. The majority of them did not have enough knowledge of and positive attitude towards psychopharmacology. Conclusion: It is necessary to introduce educational courses of psychopharmacology for nurses, especially those working in psychiatric centers. Most people think that professional stress is a negative factor, but working with appropriate stress can increase innovation and workability. The aim of this research was to determine and to compare occupational stress and to define its relation with some personal and occupational characteristics of midwives of delivery rooms and midwives of maternal and pediatric health centers. Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive-analytic correlation research. Data were collected from two groups and in one stage design. The samples included 93 midwives of delivery rooms and 75 midwives of health centers. The data gathering tool was a questionnaire. The validity of the questionnaire was proved with content and surface validity and the reliability of the questionnaire was checked with alfa Cronbach coefficient. Descriptive and analytic statistical methods were used for data analysis. Results: The results showed a significant difference between occupational stress in both groups (delivery room midwives and health centers midwives). There was no significant relation between age, marital status, level of education with occupational stress, but there was a significant relation between number of children, satisfaction, economic condition, personality type with occupational stress. There was a significant relation between job satisfaction, education, health services and occupational stress. But, there was not any significant relation between occupational stress with other professional factors. Conclusion: According to the results, change of midwives in delivery rooms with midwives in health centers each 5 years is recommended.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/248

One of the most important problems of the GCS is the inability to assess the verbal response in special patients such as intubated and aphasic patients. This study described a way to estimate an association between the verbal response and motor and eye responses of the GCS. Methods: This study was a descriptive analytic study. Data were obtained from 100 patients with decreased level of consciousness (LOC) that were referred to hospitals affiliated with Isfahan University of Medical Science. The goal of this study was to estimate verbal score from motor and eye scores in these patients. Data were collected in checklist and included demographic characteristics and LOC using GCS. Data were analyzed with chi-square test and multiple regression analysis in SPSS software. Results: There were a strong correlation between verbal score and motor and eye scores in head trauma patients (R = 0.785 ) and intubated patients (R = 0.685 ). Iranian Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Research1735-90667420100208Investigating the effect of rehabilitation on the quality of life in patients with MI250250Instructor of Medical - Surgical Nursing, Medical - Surgical Nursing Department, School of Nursing & Midwifery, Isfahan university of Medical Sciences, Isfahan20101113  Introduction: Given the progressive pace of myocardial infarction (MI), its high mortality, sudden death, physical activity limitations and frequent hospitalizations imposing high expenses to the government and the patients and due to the shortage of patients' knowledge concerning cardiac patients, this research was carried out to investigate quality of life after MI. Methods: This was a case-control study. The population studied included all MI patients referred to Isfahan University Hospitals with the sample size of 88, half rehabilitated and the other half not rehabilitated. The sampling method was random. Data were gathered with questionnaires containing 23 open and close questions investigating quality of life after MI through interview. Results: The average age of rehabilitated and non-rehabilitated samples was 51.4 years and 53.5 years, respectively. To compare the quality of life before and after rehabilitation, all answers were given scores and the total score was divided into four groups as followings: group one: scores <20, group two: 20< scores <29, group three: 30< scores< 39 and group four: scores_>40. Statistical test of Wilcoxon showed a significant difference between life quality before and after rehabilitation (P<0.001). There was also a significant difference in quality of life, between 1 and 3 months after MI among non-rehabilitated patients (P= 0.0128). About 95.3% and 69.6% of rehabilitated and non-rehabilitated patients, respectively, did not show any occasional cold sweating. Over 80% of rehabilitated samples and 47.8% of non-rehabilitated ones did not have dizziness and palpitation. The average scores of quality of life in rehabilitated and non-rehabilitated groups after three months were 26.53 and 26.3, respectively. Conclusion: Close scores of quality of life in rehabilitated and non-rehabilitated patients showed the necessity of a more serious investigation in this issue and possibly, imposing high-intensity strength exercise to them.http://ijnmr.mui.ac.ir/index.php/ijnmr/article/view/250
