Abstract

Introduction: Today, one of the basic human activities is the subject of learning and education. Indeed the role of education is to facilitate learning but many of internal or external factors affect the learners such as physical, affective and mental readiness of the learners. If we don't pay attention to these factors, the students will have a superficial learning and their training will not be efficient. If we determine the present situation of students in case of going to classes, we will upraise a long step to reach an effective strategy in teaching. Therefore, a research was planned with the goal of determining the level of learners readiness for learning in bachelor students in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2001.

Methods: This research had a cross-sectional qualitative design. The research sample consisted of 298 students in straight daily bachelor level in four schools including Public Health, Nursing and Midwifery, Management and Informatics and Rehabilitation sciences selected based on stratified sampling method. They signed personal consent forms. Research questionnaires consisted of two parts including participants' characteristics and factors related to learners readiness for learning. Data were analyzed with SPSS software.

Results: Mean scores of physical, affective and mental readiness for learning in four schools were calculated. Although a significant difference was observed for some factors related to the learners readiness but analysis of variance of mean scores of physical readiness (f=0.69, P=0.55), affective readiness (f=1.88, P=0.13) and mental readiness (f=1.18, P=0.31) in four schools didn't show any significant difference.

Conclusions: Given the similarity of learners readiness in all schools, the total situation of learning in those schools should be similar too.
