The relationship between expectations of the practical unit of nursing of maternity and newborn health and the rate of fulfilled expectations by nursing students

Abstract


Introduction: Nursing education is the underlying structure of effective human resource for social needs. One of the challenges in nursing career is disharmony in nursing education.

Methods: In this study, researchers used a survey methodology. The purpose of the study was to see if the expectations of nursing students from the practical unit of nursing of maternity and newborn health was fulfilled. Sixteen participants were selected from the girl students in term six of nursing school. The results were analyzed by means of descriptive and inferential statistical methods.

Results: The deepest gap was in instructors expectations and the fulfillment of expectations by students. There was also a deep gap between expectations of unit staff and fulfillment of expectations by students.

Conclusion: Based on the research findings, it is recommended that the mother and neonate health care educational programs be reviewed and revised. Also, the research findings imply the need for narrowing the gap between the above-mentioned expectations and their fulfillments
